WI-FI / CONNECTION TRACE

Wi‑Fi says connected. The internet disagrees.

Full Wi-Fi bars, but the website will not open. You restart the router and still cannot tell what is wrong. Bryan checks the computer, router, and internet connection to find where the problem starts, then explains the repair or the help needed from your provider.

Start with what still works. We compare connections before recommending settings changes or new equipment.

Diagnosis is free. A successful remote fix is $99 flat anywhere in Missouri. Not fixed, no charge.

WI-FI / CONNECTION TRACEHOW WE CHECK
A working phone and a failing PC are useful evidence—not a contradiction.

What still connects, and what does not?

A working phone, a failing computer, a blinking router, or a message that says ‘connected, no internet’ helps show where the connection stops.

“Connected, no internet”
The computer sees the Wi-Fi and may show full bars, but websites and email still do not work.
Every device works except one
Phones, televisions, and another computer are online while one device refuses to cooperate.
A new router changed everything
The network name, password, printer connection, or computer setup stopped working after equipment was replaced.
The signal drops in one room
Distance, walls, router placement, interference, or old equipment makes the connection unreliable where it is needed.
You tried resets and online checklists
The router and computer have been restarted, the troubleshooter ran, and now it is unclear whether the problem is the PC, router, or provider.

Trace the whole connection.

Restarting everything can hide the pattern. Comparing affected devices with working ones helps identify whether the problem belongs to the device, the local network, or the provider.

  1. CHECK 1

    Find where the path breaks

We compare the affected device with working devices and separate a provider outage from the router, Wi-Fi signal, or device connection.

  2. CHECK 2

    Repair the computer side

Network settings, saved connections, drivers, DNS, VPN conflicts, and security software are checked without changing everything at once.

  3. CHECK 3

    Reconnect the household

New router names, passwords, printers, and devices are put back on the intended network and tested.

  4. CHECK 4

    Recommend equipment only when needed

If placement, coverage, or failed hardware is the cause, BrainRoad explains the options. Buy equipment anywhere, or have us purchase it at cost with receipts and your approval.

Computer, router, or provider? Know who owns the fix.

The diagnosis separates a computer problem from a router, signal, or provider outage. BrainRoad fixes the part it can reach and gives you the test results when the provider must take over.

Problems we can help with

  • Connected-without-internet errors
  • One computer that will not connect
  • New router and password changes
  • Windows network and driver problems
  • Home Wi-Fi coverage decisions

When the plan changes

  • Provider outages remain the provider’s repair
  • Damaged outside lines need the utility or ISP
  • Large wired network installs are business on-site work
  • Remote help needs some temporary connection
  • New equipment is recommended only after diagnosis

Start with what stopped working.

Tell Bryan what you were trying to do, what happened instead, and what you already tried. The first conversation is free. He will explain the next step and whether the work needs remote access or a visit.

Before paid work begins, you know what is being attempted and the price. You approve the work and any required access.

Questions before you call

Why does the computer say connected but no internet?
It usually means the computer can reach the router but cannot complete the path to the internet. The cause can be the provider, router, address or DNS settings, a driver, VPN, security software, or the computer’s network hardware.
Can Wi-Fi problems be fixed remotely?
Often, if the affected computer has another temporary way online, such as Ethernet or a phone hotspot. If no connection is available, BrainRoad can diagnose by phone and explain the least disruptive hands-on next step.
Do you work for my internet provider?
No. BrainRoad is an independent computer-help business. It can repair the computer, router setup, and home-network side, then help you explain a confirmed line or modem problem to the provider when their equipment is the cause.
Can you fix Wi-Fi dead zones?
BrainRoad can assess placement, signal, congestion, and equipment choices. Some homes need a better router location, a wired connection, an access point, or a mesh system; no particular device is sold or required.
